| Kikuyo Town located to the North-east
of Kumamoto City on the plain alongside the central part of
the River Shirakawa. The River Shirakawa runs from the magnificent
Mount Aso. Kikuyo Town has an area of 37,570 square kilometers
and a population of 27,000. On April 1 , 1955 , Kikuyo Village
was founded and on January 1 , 1969 , this village became a
town named Kikuyo Town. |

Name |

| Kikuyo consists
of two partｓ: Kiku and Yo. Kiku is from the Kikuchi District
the town is located in to the south. Yo means sunlight.
The name Kikuyo connotes a promising future and eternal
prosperity. |

The town insignia
is made from the Japanese Katakana letter “キ”which is the first
letter of Kikuyo when written in Katakana.
It also represents a bird of peace and symbolizes a town of
prosperity. |

| Town Flower : The chrysanthemum |
|
The chrysanthemum is a perennial
flower of the chrysanthemum family which blossoms in autumn.
It is a fragrant flower and comes in various types. In Japan
the chrysanthemum has long been favored as a flower of nobility.
In Japnese the chrysanthemum is pronounced “Kiku” which is a
part of our town's name. We think it is ideal for our town flower. |

| Town Tree :
The Cedar Tree |

The cedar tree is a coniferous
tree of the cedar familiy.
The cedar trees on Kikuyo Town's Bungo Avenue are 400 years
old. Aline of cedar trees continues for 12 kilometers from east
to west. Through these cedar trees Mount Aso can be seen in
the distance.
The roots of cedar tree grow deep and the tree grows high toward
the sky. This symbolizes the future of Kikuyo Town. |

The Lark |
|
The lark belongs to the lark family.
Wild larks can be found all over Japan and because of their
beautiful singing.
The lark flies high in the sky and sings beautifully. This is
the symbol of our town , Kikuyo Town , which leaps to the future. |

| The River Shirakawa which runs
from Mount Aso blesses the agriculture of the town. Primary
products of the Kikuyo Town are rice , vegetables , tabacco
, and livestock. Especially our carrots are widely acclaimed
and are shipped all over Japan under the brand name Kikuyo Ninjin. |
